Zoo Day!

A few weeks ago, Elizabeth had a few days off from school so we headed to the zoo for a fun day with the animals.  All of the other school districts in our area were in school, so the zoo was not crowded and we were able to see a ton of animals.

First animals- gazelles

Otters
(they went underwater as I took this picture)

They love to pose with all the statues/sculptures around the zoo
Love their pose!

Giant panda

The girls loved watching the panda eat bamboo

These girls are so cute! :)

Elephants!
We learned a lot from a volunteer working the Elephant walk.
At our zoo, we have six female Asian elephants.
Ages from 27-70 years old.

In the wild, elephants usually live to 50.

On our way to the Panda House!

Sleeping pandas

Elizabeth wanted her own picture with the panda.
Where did my little girl go??

American Bison

We stopped for snacks (and selfies upon request)

Making a heart with her hands is her new favorite thing :)

Ready to see more animals!

We got sidetracked and went to see the elephants at the bottom of the elephant trail

Caroline's favorite animal is an elephant

They were so close!

She was a little excited!

We also stopped by the mammal house

And the Giant Ape House

Lots of turtles!

So right after this picture, the lower part of the zoo was closed due to a gas leak.  We were going to ride the carousel and have lunch plus see the lions and tigers and kids area.  The girls were super bummed AND we had to walk all the way up the giant hill back to our car (instead of catching the shuttle that was at the bottom of the zoo).  We took a few more pictures and then made the looooong trek back to our car.

We spent a little over two hours at the zoo and had a great time!
It wasn't too cold or too hot and it wasn't crowded.
We love our zoo and we are excited to go back for Zoo Lights!

Happy Thursday y'all!
