Camping

Over Memorial Day Weekend we attempted to take the girls camping for one night.  The below photos are the story of our failed attempt.  Enjoy!

On our drive, we stopped for a picnic lunch at a scenic overlook

Best picnic lunch photo ever.  Elizabeth jumped every 15 seconds because of bees and Caroline refused to eat the turkey sandwich she had requested. #keepingitreal #familyvacation

After lunch, we hiked to the top of the overlook

 It was so beautiful!!

 Love our sweet family!

Headed down the path, back to the car, and on our way to the campground

I brought bucket and shovels and Caroline did this for 45 minutes while we set-up

The girls tent is on the left and our tent is on the right

Ben and I relaxing after unloading and setting-up everything

Elizabeth was very fascinated with the fire ring

After Ben and I cooled off, we headed over to Ohiopyle to see a few waterfalls.

We walked from the waterfalls to a frozen yogurt shop to get " ice cream".
Ben snapped this photo, not sure what is happening...

After frozen yogurt we headed over to Cucumber Falls.

As we were leaving Cucumber Falls it started raining.
By the time we got back to our campsite, it was pouring and we had left everything sitting out (chairs, coolers, food, etc.)  The forecast did not call for rain and so we thought we were fine.

We decided to try to make a fire and spent about 80 minutes working on  it (I held an umbrella over Ben while he put the fire together).  While we did this, the girls ran around outside in the rain.

After we ate our hotdogs in the car (it was pouring and all our camping chairs were soaked), Ben decided to walk up to the lodge to get a wifi signal and see what was happening with the weather.  The girls and I made s'mores and while we were eating them- the lightening started.
Both girls freaked out and ran into the car.
I started packing.
Ben came back and said we had to go because it was going to be severe lightening storms ALL NIGHT.
It took us 45 minutes and we threw everything soaking wet into the car.
We drove about 70 minutes to Ben's parents house (our house was 3 hours away).
We got in around 9:30pm, gave the girls showers to warm up, and I put them to bed.

Ben and his dad emptied the car and put everything out in the garage to dry:

We left the next morning after breakfast and spent almost five hours getting home as the storms NEVER STOPPED THE ENTIRE NIGHT.

I am thankful we had a great afternoon.
I am thankful the girls had fun.
I am thankful Ben's parents took us in.
I am thankful to be home in a warm, dry house. :)

Happy Tuesday y'all!
