First day of Summer: National Air and Space Museum

For Elizabeth's first official day of summer vacation, we loaded up the car and headed to the
Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, part of the National Air and Space Museum.  Ben and I were very excited to take the girls because none of us had ever been and we had heard lots of wonderful things about this museum.

We left after breakfast on Friday morning and drove the thirty-ish minutes out to Dulles.  The museum is free, but parking is $15.  The Udvar-Hazy Center is right next to Dulles International Airport and if you go up in the observation deck you can watch the planes land at the airport.

This facility was simply amazing!!!  It has airplanes, helicopter, gliders, satellites, A SPACE SHUTTLE,  simulators, and so much more.  They have planes from World War II, Vietnam, Korea, the Gulf War.  They have everything from a Concord airplane to military helicopters.  The Udvar-Hazy Center has it all!!!

Here's a look at our visit:

Elizabeth LOVES space and was super excited for our outing.

Caroline thought all the missiles were cool :)

So many planes and helicopters

Ben and I were most excited about seeing Space Shuttle Discovery!
And Elizabeth couldn't believe this is what the astronauts used to go to space.

Caroline wanted to be in the picture too :)

The hatch at the front is where the astronauts went in and out
The back of the shuttle.
It was so amazing!

This quarantine facility is where astronauts stayed after returning from the moon

We went up in the observation tower to watch the planes land.

This was one of Amelia Earhart's planes

We had a blast and can't wait to go back.

Happy Tuesday y'all!
